Oxidation or permanent dying is achieved by the chemical combination of dying intermediates. These chemical intermediates are not giving a shade by themselves but are forming colored polymers when they are properly combined.

Due to their small size, they can penetrate easily into hair fibers. The colored polymer is formed inside hair fibers and cannot be removed by simple washes. This is a long lasting or permanent dying. Bases are combined with couplers to form a wide range of natural shades, natural shades with highlights or only highlights.

Acid dyes are anionic molecules that have low natural affinity to hair fibers. Therefore, they are not providing long lasting effect in normal conditions. So they are considered as temporary dyes.

However, when they are properly formulated, they can have a better affinity to hair and provide a lasting of several washes.

Acid dyes are providing a «build up» effect: the dying effect is increased after several applications on hair.

Cationic dyes have a natural affinity to hair and are then able to achieve semi-permanent effect.

Part of them are selected to get natural semi-permanent shades: so when combining COSMECOL Brown B 16 & B 17, Red B 76,Yellow B 57 and Blue B 99 final shades are natural and stable after several shampoos. There is no selectivity.

Others are providing in addition intensive highlights but with higher selectivity.

The so called Nitro dyes are often small molecules and can naturally penetrate into the cuticle, close to the cortex.

They are providing very bright shades and intensive highlights.

It is possible to combine them with other semi-permanent dyes families in order to achieve a large number of shade effects.

Natural dyes, derived from plants, minerals, or insects, color the hair in a generally temporary to semi-permanent way, offering a softer and more nuanced result compared to chemical dyes

Disperse dyes are achieving semi-permanent formulations with good substantivity to hair, resistant to fading and lasting several washes.

They can be combined with other semi-permanent dyes.
